Diamondbacks Extend Winning Streak, Clinch Series Victory Against Reds
Katie Stratman-USA TODAY Sports

For the first time since April 14th, the Arizona Diamondbacks are poised to secure a series victory after notching a narrow win tonight against the Cincinnati Reds, extending their winning streak to three games.

Jordan Montgomery delivered another stellar performance for Arizona, pitching seven innings and allowing just two earned runs. Montgomery claimed his second win of the season as he left the game with the D-backs ahead, 3-2.

The Reds initially took the lead with a run in the 2nd inning, but the Diamondbacks responded with two runs in the 3rd. Gabriel Moreno ignited the offense with a leadoff single, followed by Pavin Smith, who tied the game with a double down the first base line.

Gabriel Moreno found himself once again in the middle of a rally a couple innings later, putting the Diamondbacks back on top in the 6th. Taking advantage of a couple of singles to start the inning, Moreno drove in Lourdes Gurriel Jr with a base knock in the gap.

Eugenio Suarez added an insurance run with a two-out home run in the 8th inning, extending the lead to 4-2.

This additional run became crucial when the Reds threatened in the bottom of the 9th, coming within 90 feet of tying the game. After Kevin Ginkel walked the leadoff batter, Cincinnati strung together a pair of base hits to bring one run home.

In response, the Diamondbacks brought in Joe Mantiply with runners on the corner and just one out. Mantiply managed to strikeout pinch hitter Will Benson then forced Jonathan India to flyout, ending the game.

The Diamondbacks aim for a series sweep tomorrow morning at 10:10 with Slade Cecconi scheduled to start.
