Yankees Take Flier On Intriguing Hurler To Help Bolster Pitching Depth
Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Yankees have added some pitching depth.

According to Joel Sherman of The New York Post, the Yankees have signed right-handed pitcher Cody Poteet to a major league contract.

The deal is pending a physical.

Poteet spent 2021-2022 with the Miami Marlins, posting a 4.45 ERA in 19 games, which included nine starts.

Poteet underwent Tommy John surgery in August of 2022, knocking him out for most of the 2023 season. Last year, he signed a minor league deal with the Kansas City Royals and appeared in just one minor league game for them in late September.

The 29-year-old righty will now be in the mix to compete for a spot in the Yankees' rotation and bullpen.

The Yankees lost Michael King, who figured to fit into their rotation or bullpen, and Wandy Peralta is still a free agent. New York is need of more relievers, and Poteet could be an option if he can put it all together in the Bronx.
