‘Frustrated’ Richard Sherman lashes out at new Seahawks HC Mike Macdonald’s decision to remove numerous murals depicting past triumphs
Nathan Ray Seebeck-USA TODAY Sports

This month, the Seattle Seahawks made a bold decision and removed a lot of their old murals that were testimonial to the team’s triumphs over time. As controversial as the decision was, many weren’t happy about it. Especially former franchise legend Richard Sherman who lashed out at the new head coach for doing so.

The news of Mike Macdonald ’s bold decision became people’s knowledge after his first press conference, held this week. Given, that it was organized by the Seahawks, the reporters gathered there observed most of the famous Seahawks murals from the walls were removed. It wasn’t until the reporters asked about it that General Manager John Schneider and Defensive Leader Leonard Williams revealed whose behind the whole decision.

Upon hearing the news, Sherman expressed his frustration towards the newly-hired Macdonald on social media. It was actually a reply to a tweet by former teammate Kam Chancellor , who also opposed the decision.

Yea I’m sure every great franchise is removing its legendary players pictures from their building because they can’t ever live up to that. Makes sense. Sure the Ravens don’t have pictures of Ray Lewis and that great defense.  I’m sure Pittsburg doesn’t have pictures of all the great moments. I’m sure Dallas, SF,  NE all remove pictures of the history of their Franchise because of a new coach. Makes sense. Richard Sherman on X

Richard Sherman’s stance on defending a legacy

Fans didn’t react quite well to Sherman’s frustration, but that only fueled the Super Bowl champion’s anger. When a fan said, every coach has done that including Carroll, Sherman replied with another tweet.

Pete Hung a SB banner no other coach in the franchise history has done that. But it’s on brand. Richard Sherman on X

The five-time Pro Bowler defended his frustration saying, it’s about a franchise that he helped win the only Super Bowl trophy they have.

The reason why Macdonald removed those murals is because he wanted to create his ‘own legacy’ with the Seahawks. What contradicts most about MacDonald’s decision was all those slogans and images were from the tenure of former head coach, Pete Carroll. And the reason behind Sherman’s anger for the new head coach is because of Carroll, who took a chance at Sherman, coming out of college.

One of those images was also of Sherman’s iconic play from the game against the San Francisco 49ers, where he led the team to the Super Bowl by deftly tipping Colin Kaepernick‘s pass.
