The NFL playoffs began yesterday with two games. Last night, the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Miami Dolphins in dominant fashion. Of course, the NFL Network had their usual programming to react to the earlier results. However, NFL Network analyst Maurice Jones-Drew could not let one comment by anchor Chris Rose go.
The Chiefs defeated the Dolphins by a final score of 26-7. It was pretty clear that Kansas City’s defense put on a show, limiting an explosive Miami offense. Chris Rose seemed to be impressed with the defense and thought it was a good sign that the Chiefs have life in the playoffs. However, he should have thought about how to describe this before he said what he did.
Rose started to talk to Jones-Drew about the Kansas City defense. He then asked Jones about it with this quote:
“This is far and away the best defense Patrick Mahomes has ever had, right? Is it possible that they could ride the D?” -Chris Rose
Jones-Drew had to pause for a few seconds to get Rose to understand what he just said. He did this in the most hilarious way possible. Jones-Drew did not respond for several seconds and stared at Rose directly until he corrected himself. A few awkward seconds later, Rose finally clarified his comment with this:
“…The defense…” -Chris Rose
After that, Jones-Drew was satisfied that Rose understood what he said. He ceased the awkwardness by simply stating “ok” and then went on to answer Rose’s question.
Fans joined in not believing what they just heard. The fan who posted the video in the link above captioned it by saying the following:
“I’m sorry. Can’t help myself.”
Once the show concluded, Chris Rose did have a little fun with this. He was able to poke fun at himself on X/Twitter shortly after this comment. Last night, he tweeted a picture mimicking Jones-Drew’s epic stare. He tagged Maurice Jones-Drew and captioned the picture saying the following:
“When you leave you dude hanging on set, you will get this look.
“Should have said DEFENSE, Rose.”” -Chris Rose
Maurice Jones-Drew retweeted the picture and caption that Rose posted. In the end, it made for a great laugh as the Chiefs get ready to find out if Patrick Mahomes will have to play in his first road playoff game next week.
