Penguins Waive Ryan Shea, Clear Roster & Cap Space
Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

The Pittsburgh Penguins placed defenseman Ryan Shea on waivers Monday.

Coach Mike Sullivan said Monday morning that Rickard Rackell, who is on LTIR, Chad Ruhwedel and Noel Aciari were game-time decisions when the Penguins host the Minnesota Wild. The Penguins will first need to activate Acciari and Rakell.

This season, Shea, 26, has played 22 NHL games–his first NHL action–but has not registered a point.

If Shea clears waivers at 2 p.m. Tuesday, he’ll be eligible to assigned to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. He carries a one-year contract with a $775,000 average annual value, which can be fully buried in the AHL without penalty to the Penguins.

Sunday at practice, Shea skated on the extra pairing with defenseman P.O Josepn. Ruhwedel was on the third pair with John Ludvig.
