Manchester City have paid a fitting tribute to Ilkay Gundogan and his legacy at Manchester City. The German international departed the club in the summer in a free transfer to Barcelona. Gundogan has had his time with the club honoured with a training pitch mosaic unveiled at the CFA unveiled today.

Club Chairman Khaldoon Al-Mubarak unveiled the mosaic in a video posted to the club’s social media accounts and official website. In the video he wished Gundogan well for his 33rd birthday and thanked him for his contribution to the club as a player and as a person.

The midfielder will always have a special place in the history of Manchester City. Ilkay Gundogan was the first captain in the club’s history to raise the UEFA Champions League trophy. That honour also came in a season when the club claimed the historical treble in which Gundogan captained the club.

Manchester City unveiling the mosaic is a fitting tribute to Gundogan’s 7 years at the club. His 7-year spell at the club coincided with an unprecedented era of success led by Pep Guardiola. Gundogan departed the club after winning 5 Premier League titles, 4 Carabao Cups, 2 FA Cups and a UEFA Champions League crown.

Ilkay Gundogan’s time at the European champions will go down in club history, and today’s mosaic unveiling honours a club legend.
