A transfer saga looks set to have its end as Ilkay Gundogan's move to Barcelona is reportedly very close to being all done even though Manchester City offered him a new deal to stay at the club after he was vital in their charge to the treble.

The German international was officially put on the released list by the Premier League Champions but they were still hopeful that he would stay on at the club even though there was strong interest from Barcelona, Arsenal and Saudi Arabia.

However the interest from Xavi's side was seemingly too strong to turn down from Gundogan who had verbally agreed to join the club a while back.

Gundogan has had his medical in Germany and also ironed out a couple of things in his contract offer from Barcelona but is now ready to make the move to the Spanish giants.

He has been offered a three-year deal by the club with the third year dependent on how many appearances he makes in his second season.

Manchester City had made an improved offer to try and secure his future at the club with Pep Guardiola desperate for him to stay but Gundogan and his representatives didn't think the offer was too convincing so turned it down.

In all competitions for City in the 22/23 season he played 51 games scoring 11 goals whilst also managing to get 7 assists.

He will be remembered for his goalscoring exploits in the FA Cup final against Manchester United and also for his brace on the last day of the 21/22 Premier League season which won Manchester City the title.
